The challenge: interactive demo (2 min)

Air forces

Every newcomer trained right beside the aircraft, without monopolising your experienced technicians

Technical squadrons, industrial workshops, schools: the technician follows the procedure in augmented reality, on the aircraft, both hands on the tool. Everything works offline: your technical data stays on the base, and none of it passes to the software publisher.

A mechanic, wearing augmented-reality glasses, works through an open access panel on an aircraft fuselage, in a hangar.
  • 100% offlineOn base, on deployment, in a sensitive workshop: nothing to connect, nothing to open, artificial intelligence included.
  • No data held by the software publisherWe don’t know what our customers do, and we don’t need to know. Emmanuel Bricard, co-founder.
  • Hands-freeThe procedure is displayed on the aircraft, right where action is needed: both hands stay on the tool.

Your challenges

Availability is won in the workshop.

Many newcomers, technicians who rotate

Every newcomer must be trained on the job, and every departure takes know-how with it.

When teams rotate

Aircraft availability

Every hour an experienced technician spends explaining is an hour less on the aircraft.

Infrequent maintenance tasks

Old and new fleets coexist: some procedures are only carried out now and then.

Technical data to protect

It has no business being in a cloud or on a phone: it stays on the base, under your sole control.

100% offline

What SHIFT89 changes

More time on the aircraft, less time explaining.

What the experienced technician, the newcomer and the team leader experience.

  • Without any connection

On base, on deployment, in a sensitive workshop: everything works without a network, artificial intelligence included. No data passes to the software publisher.

  • Hands-free

The procedure is displayed on the aircraft, right where action is needed. No tablet resting on the wing, no document to leaf through with gloves on.

  • A few minutes

The experienced technician passes on a procedure in a few minutes, on the aircraft: no writing, no filming, no mandatory editing.

  • Verified learning

A quiz checks that the procedure is understood; you track who has learnt what, and where people get stuck.

Use cases

From the technical squadron to the industrial workshop.

Squadron maintenance

The procedure guided right beside the aircraft, without tying up your best technician for each newcomer.

Industrial workshops

The same task from one team to another and from one site to another, passed on using the real equipment.

Airframe, systems, avionics

The expert’s procedure available right where action is needed, whatever the specialism.

Rare intervention

Review a rarely performed procedure just before carrying it out, on the aircraft.

Before someone leaves

The departing technician passes on their procedures on the aircraft, in a few minutes per procedure.

Technical schools

From school to the job: the same task, guided the same way.

Military schools

The difference

What a tablet, a video or an online platform impose in the hangar.

Every tool has its strengths. Here is what these approaches impose by nature, and what we do differently.

  • Other approachesA tablet resting on the wing means eyes leaving the work area. You read, turn around, look for where to act.
With SHIFT89The procedure is displayed on the aircraft.Eyes on the task, both hands on the tool.
  • Other approachesA video shows the task somewhere else. You have to pause, go back, find the right moment.
With SHIFT89Augmented reality places it on the aircraft. The technician moves at their own pace, guided step by step.
  • Other approachesAn online platform keeps your procedures on its servers.A connection, an account, data held by the software publisher.
With SHIFT89Your technical data stays on the base.No network to open, no online account, nothing held by us.

What we equip

Your language, your hands-on skills.

Aircraft support, with tools as close as possible to the task.

Availability
Train on the job without tying up your best technicians: availability is also won in the workshop.
Continuing airworthiness
The exact task, shown on the aircraft, complementing the reference documentation.
In-service support
Procedures that stay on the base when teams change.
Operational and industrial maintenance
The same tutorial can be used in the squadron and in the industrial workshop.
Old and new fleets
Rarely performed tasks, available on the day they have to be done again.

Our hardware advice

The hardware suited to your conditions of use, not the latest fashion.

Having worked in industry ourselves, we advise our customers as we would have done for ourselves: the device suited to your conditions of use, the length of your programmes and your budget. Only operational solutions.

Isolated network

Devices that work without any connection, from first to last use.

Conditions of use

Hangar, workshop, extended wear with your protective equipment: we advise you on the hardware suited to your environment. Some conditions (outdoors, cold, explosive atmospheres) require a case-by-case study.

Lifespan

Hardware chosen to last and to be supported; your content does not depend on a single device.

Turnkey: we configure each device and fit it with the necessary accessories, so that it works in your environment and with your constraints. What we prepare

Works on: Microsoft HoloLens 2, Arvicom CART-S, Samsung Galaxy XR, VITURE Luma Ultra XR, XREAL Aura and VIVE Eagle, and soon Arvicom CART-3D. Your content does not depend on a device.

Measured results

What our deployments have measured.

Figures measured during our deployments, a method validated by 5 industrial PhD theses and evaluated against Microsoft Dynamics 365 Guides.

  • 1 minTo create an instructionBy the expert, on the real equipment, with no writing or editing (measured in our deployments)
  • × 2Train twice as fast, autonomouslyMeasured in our deployments, at a tier-one automotive supplier

Industrial research

A boiler manufacturing plant: the method evaluated against Guides

Our method stems from work carried out with Institut Mines-Télécom in a boiler manufacturing plant. It was compared with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Guides.

Result: a study published at IEEE ISMAR 2022, the leading international conference on augmented reality.

Funding and procurement

Simple purchasing.

An off-the-shelf solution, on quotation. It is up to the buyer to qualify their contract, according to the rules that apply to them.

Licences on quotation

One licence per device, glasses or headset, with volume discounts, and one licence for the PC application. Your choice: annual licences, multi-year licences or licences for the lifetime of the hardware. A quotation based on your project.

One day to get started

A one-hour scoping session by video call, one day on site with up to 8 of your experts, then standard project management. Additional support days when your project requires them.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions.

Does it work without any network, on base and on deployment?

Yes. No connection is required, whether to create, to learn or to track learners. The artificial intelligence (transcription, translation, voice) also runs on your computers, offline.

Our procedures are in the manufacturer’s official documentation. What is a tutorial for?

The official documentation remains the reference. The tutorial complements it: it shows the task on the aircraft, right where action is needed, and can be updated in a few minutes when the documentation changes.

It also makes training far more engaging and effective, particularly for younger generations. And it enables independent training, where there is no safety risk for learners.

Finally, it becomes your training standard: all learners are trained the same way, and this standard improves continuously, incorporating the best of your past, present and future trainers.

Glasses and headsets have cameras. What about protected areas?

Bringing a camera-equipped device into a protected area is subject to the approval of the site security officer: your rules apply. On our side, images stay on your equipment and none are sent to the software publisher. We do not know what our customers do with our solution, unless they tell us and share their content with us, on their own initiative.

HoloLens 2 is no longer manufactured, and its security updates continue until December 2027 for connected devices. What happens to the investment?

At SHIFT89, we support HoloLens 2 until at least the end of 2030, so you can use your investment for longer. #AugmentedTraining needs no connection to work: your HoloLens 2 headsets can therefore be disconnected from Wi-Fi, for maximum security.

Your content does not depend on a single device: several augmented-reality glasses and headsets are compatible. We advise you, completely independently, on the one that suits your operating conditions and your budget.

All content created with #AugmentedTraining on HoloLens 2 can be reused, without being redone, on the new glasses and headsets we support.

Isn’t augmented reality still at the laboratory stage?

No. #AugmentedTraining is already in service, in defence as well as in industry and education. Your trainers are trained in one day: they create their first tutorial that same afternoon, then, from the next day, as often as is useful.

Is the software accredited?

Accreditation is a decision by the authority that operates the system, for a given system: we do not claim it. Under a non-disclosure agreement, we provide the technical documentation useful for your process.

Your procedures stay on the base.

A 30-minute to 2-hour demonstration, on one or more of your real cases, on an isolated network if needed.
