The challenge: interactive demo (2 min)

Electronics and semiconductors

Production rates are rising and technicians are scarce: train at the pace of your lines.

Boards and sub-assemblies, components, semiconductors: your expert shows it once, in a few minutes; your operators are guided step by step, in their own language. No data leaves your site, not even for artificial intelligence.

A technician in an antistatic coat, wearing augmented-reality glasses, solders a component onto a circuit board under an illuminated magnifier.
  • 100% offlineSensitive programmes: no connection, no online account, artificial intelligence included.
  • No data held by the software publisherNothing is hosted by SHIFT89 and the software requires no online account.
  • Hands-freeThe instruction is displayed on the sub-assembly: both hands stay on the workstation.

From wiring to testing.

Wiring and connectors

The order of operations and the checkpoints shown on the real sub-assembly.

Hand soldering

Workstation preparation, sequence, inspection: the expert’s technique, to review as often as needed.

Integration and testing

Integration of boards and sub-assemblies: the steps placed on the equipment, with a validation quiz at the end.

SMT changeover

The SMT line changeover, done the way your best setter does it, every time.

Protected area rules

Electrostatic discharge protection rules recalled to every newcomer, at the workstation.

Line start-up

Train before and during start-up, without tying up your experts for every new arrival.

The difference

What a tablet, a phone or a cloud AI impose on an electronics line.

Every tool has its strengths. Here is what these approaches impose by nature, and what we do differently.

  • Other approachesA tablet on the bench means eyes leaving the board. You read, turn around, look for where to act.
With SHIFT89The instruction is displayed on the board, right where action is needed.Eyes on the task, both hands on the tool.
  • Other approachesFilming soldering on a phone means one hand fewer to do it.Then filming, editing, and a file to keep under control.
With SHIFT89The expert passes on the task while doing it, hands-free.One minute per instruction; nothing leaves the site.
  • Other approachesAn AI that translates in the cloud sends your procedures off site.Whatever it translates or transcribes goes through its servers.
With SHIFT89An AI that runs on your computer.Translation and voice in each person’s language, offline.

What we equip

Your tasks, your vocabulary.

SMT
Line changeover and maintenance, passed on by your best setter.
Soldering
Preparation, sequence and inspection around the task, shown at the workstation.
Wiring and connectors
The order of operations placed on the sub-assembly, with no document to leaf through.
Boards and sub-assemblies
Integration guided step by step, in the operator’s language.
Semiconductors
Sensitive procedures that never leave your site, not even for translation.
ESD, EPA (IEC 61340-5-1)
Bringing the device into the EPA is approved with your ESD coordinator, site by site; we help you prepare for it.
Cleanroom (ISO 14644-1)
Your cleanliness class sets the rules: we work with you to identify compatible devices, case by case.
IPC standards
The tutorial shows the technique and your criteria; it replaces neither the standard nor your certification training.

Our hardware advice

The right hardware for your workshop, not the latest fashion.

As former industry professionals, we advise you as we would have advised ourselves: the device suited to your workshop, your protective equipment and your budget. Only solutions proven in real conditions.

ESD protected area

Bringing a device into the EPA is approved with your ESD coordinator, site by site: we help you prepare for this approval.

Cleanroom

Your cleanliness class sets the rules: we work with you to identify compatible devices, case by case.

Your budget

Just the hardware you need for your workstations and teams: neither the latest fad nor a cheaper but unreliable solution.

Turnkey: we configure each device and fit it with the necessary accessories, so that it works in your environment and with your constraints. What we prepare

Works on: Microsoft HoloLens 2, Arvicom CART-S, Samsung Galaxy XR, VITURE Luma Ultra XR, XREAL Aura and VIVE Eagle, and soon Arvicom CART-3D. Your content does not depend on a device.

Measured results

What our deployments have measured.

Figures measured during our deployments, a method validated by 5 industrial PhD theses and evaluated against Microsoft Dynamics 365 Guides in a study published at IEEE ISMAR 2022.

  • 1 minTo create an instructionBy the expert, on the real equipment, with no writing or editing (measured in our deployments)
  • × 2Train twice as fast, autonomouslyMeasured in our deployments, at a tier-one automotive supplier
  • ÷ 5Trainers and mentors tied up5 times fewer, measured in our deployments

Automotive industry

A tier-one automotive supplier trains twice as fast

Autonomous operator training, guided in augmented reality on the real equipment.

Result: training speed doubled.

Industrial research

A boiler manufacturing plant: the method evaluated against Guides

Our method stems from work carried out with Institut Mines-Télécom in a boiler manufacturing plant. It was compared with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Guides.

Result: a study published at IEEE ISMAR 2022, the leading international conference on augmented reality.

Funding and procurement

Simple purchasing.

An off-the-shelf solution, on quotation. It is up to the buyer to qualify their purchase, according to the rules that apply to them.

Licences on quotation

One licence per device, glasses or headset, with volume discounts, and one licence for the PC application. Your choice: annual licences, multi-year licences or licences for the lifetime of the hardware. A quotation based on your project.

One day to get started

A one-hour scoping session by video call, one day on site with up to 8 of your experts, then standard project management. Additional support days when your project requires them.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions.

Can the glasses enter our EPA?

That is for your ESD coordinator to decide, site by site: an electronic device comes under your electrostatic discharge control programme like any other equipment. We help you prepare for this approval.

What about tasks performed under magnification?

Augmented reality is not designed for those tasks. It helps around them: workstation preparation, sequence of operations, inspection, changeover.

Our programmes are sensitive. What does SHIFT89 see?

Nothing. Everything runs offline, on your devices and workstations: SHIFT89 hosts none of your data and the software requires no online account. The artificial intelligence (transcription, translation, voice) also runs on your computer.

Glasses and headsets have cameras. What about protected areas?

Bringing a camera-equipped device into a protected area is subject to the approval of the site security officer: your rules apply. On our side, images stay on your equipment and none are sent to the software publisher. We do not know what our customers do with our solution, unless they tell us and share their content with us, on their own initiative.

Our operators speak several languages. What can we do?

Each instruction is translated and read aloud in the learner’s language by an artificial intelligence that runs on your computer, offline. You review and adjust it in a few minutes.

HoloLens 2 is no longer manufactured, and its security updates continue until December 2027 for connected devices. What happens to the investment?

At SHIFT89, we support HoloLens 2 until at least the end of 2030, so you can use your investment for longer. #AugmentedTraining needs no connection to work: your HoloLens 2 headsets can therefore be disconnected from Wi-Fi, for maximum security.

Your content does not depend on one device: several augmented-reality glasses and headsets are compatible. We advise you, completely independently, on the one that suits your working conditions and your budget.

All content created with #AugmentedTraining on HoloLens 2 can be reused, without being redone, on the new glasses and headsets we support.

Your procedures stay where they belong.
