The challenge: interactive demo (2 min)

Machine and equipment manufacturers

Your technicians cannot follow every machine. Their know-how can.

Commissioning, operation, maintenance: your technician passes on the procedure in a few minutes, hands-free, on the machine itself. At your customers’ sites, at home as abroad, each operator follows it in augmented reality, in their own language, with no online account and no connection to your servers or to theirs.

A commissioning technician and an operator, both wearing augmented-reality glasses, at the control desk of a new industrial machine.
  • 100% offlineAt your customers’ sites: no network to open, no connection to your servers or to theirs, artificial intelligence included.
  • No data held by the software publisherYour procedures remain yours: nothing is hosted by SHIFT89, no online account.
  • Hands-freeThe procedure is displayed on the delivered machine: your customer’s operator keeps both hands on the equipment.

Your benefits

Stand out from your competitors, and reduce your travel.

A machine delivered with its guide

Deliver your machine with augmented-reality glasses: a guide to start-up, operation and even first-level maintenance. The first users you train, and everyone who follows them at your customer’s site, are autonomous: maximum satisfaction, and an argument your competitors do not have.

Fewer support trips

A machine is causing trouble at a customer’s site, far from you? Sending a specific tutorial, or a pair of glasses, may be enough to solve it: lower travel costs, and a machine that is back up and running sooner.

Your challenges

Your machine ships. Your know-how must ship with it.

Customers far away, in other languages

Your machines are often exported. Each country has its language, each customer its teams.

Scarce specialists

Maintenance and customer technical support engineers are hard to recruit.

Your customers train beginners

Your customers find it hard to recruit too. Their new operators need to learn your machine fast.

Every commissioning ties up a technician

Training the customer’s operator, handling after-sales calls, coming back for a rare intervention: so many trips for your best technicians.

Train your customers

Closed sites or sites without a network

When your customer’s site is closed to suppliers, or simply has no network, an online service is useless.

100% offline

An industry of SMEs and mid-sized companies

Little time, and experts in high demand.

What SHIFT89 changes

Each customer trained on their own machine, in their own language, offline.

What your technician, your customer service team and your customer’s operator experience.

  • Offline, at your customers’ sites

The tutorial works at your customer’s site without any connection: not to your servers, not to theirs, not to a cloud. No online account to create, no network access to negotiate.

    Learn more
  • Hands-free

Your technician creates while commissioning the machine; your customer’s operator follows the instruction on the machine, both hands on the equipment.

    Learn more
  • A few minutes

One minute per instruction: your commissioning, operating and maintenance procedures are created on the machine, with no technical writer, no filming, no contractor.

    Learn more
  • In each customer's language

Each instruction is translated and read aloud in the operator’s language by an artificial intelligence that runs on your computer, offline.

Machinery Regulation

20 January 2027: the right time to rethink your customer documentation.

Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 on machinery becomes mandatory from 20 January 2027. It specifies the conditions under which the instructions for use may be supplied in digital form1.

An augmented-reality tutorial does not replace the instructions for use, and its compliance remains to be established under the Regulation. It extends them: it shows, on the machine, the task they describe.

Use cases

From the factory gate to after-sales service.

Commissioning

The commissioning steps placed on the machine: the customer moves forward alone, and your technician focuses on what really requires their presence.

Everyday use

Operating tasks guided on the machine, for every new user at your customer’s site, without waiting for your technician.

Training your customers

The customer’s operators, setters and maintenance teams: each one learns on their own machine, in their own language, at their own pace.

First-level maintenance

Routine maintenance tasks done by your customer’s team, guided on the machine: your technicians keep their time for what really needs it.

Remote support

A specific tutorial, or a pair of glasses sent to the customer, may be enough to solve a problem: fewer trips, lower costs.

Export

The same tutorial, in each country’s language: your know-how travels with the machine.

Your own teams

Assemblers, commissioning technicians: your newcomers learn on machines being assembled.

Customer visits and trade shows

The “wow” effect: the machine and its know-how presented together, on the stand as in your workshop, without a network.

The difference

What an online platform, a video or a document impose at your customers’ sites.

Every tool has its strengths. Here is what these approaches impose by nature, and what we do differently.

  • Other approachesAn online platform requires your customer to connect to it.An account to create, network access to open, and your procedures held by a software publisher.
With SHIFT89The tutorial works at your customer’s site, offline. Not connected to your servers or to theirs: nothing held by us.
  • Other approachesA commissioning video shows the machine somewhere else. You have to pause, go back, and subtitle it for every country.
With SHIFT89The instruction is displayed on the delivered machine. In the operator’s language, step by step.
  • Other approachesOne more document in the machine file.To be read away from the machine, sometimes in another language.
With SHIFT89Not one more document: the task guided where it is done. And a quiz checks that the operator has understood.

What we equip

Your trade, in your words.

The tutorial adds to your documentation: it shows the task; it replaces neither the instructions for use nor the risk assessment.

Commissioning
The steps placed on the machine, at the customer’s site, offline.
Customer training
Each operator trained on their own machine, in their own language, without sending a trainer.
Customer service and after-sales
Your best technicians’ know-how, available at every customer’s site.
Instructions for use
The tutorial does not replace the instructions: it shows, on the machine, the task they describe.
Machine safety
Making safe and lockout shown in the right order, in the right place, before any intervention.
Machine tools and agricultural equipment
Complex equipment, often exported: the know-how travels with it.
Predictive maintenance
Scheduled maintenance tasks, shown to the customer’s team when they are carried out.
Industrialisation
From the very first machine, the assembly and setting technique passed on to the whole team.

Our hardware advice

The right equipment for your use, not the latest fad.

As former industry professionals, we advise you as we would have advised ourselves: the device suited to your constraints, your uses and your budget. Only operational solutions, proven in real conditions.

At your customers’ sites

Workshop, protective equipment, environment: we help you recommend to your customers the device suited to their conditions. Outdoor work, cold and explosive atmospheres require a case-by-case assessment.

One software package, several platforms

Your content does not depend on a device: each customer can choose the model that suits their use and budget.

Your budget

Just the hardware you need for your workstations and teams: neither the latest fad nor a cheaper but unreliable solution.

Turnkey: we configure each device and fit it with the necessary accessories, so that it works in your environment and with your constraints. What we prepare

Works on: Microsoft HoloLens 2, Arvicom CART-S, Samsung Galaxy XR, VITURE Luma Ultra XR, XREAL Aura and VIVE Eagle, and soon Arvicom CART-3D. Your content does not depend on a device.

Measured results

What our deployments have measured.

Figures measured during our deployments, a method validated by 5 industrial PhD theses and evaluated against Microsoft Dynamics 365 Guides in a study published at IEEE ISMAR 2022.

  • 1 minTo create an instructionBy the expert, on the real equipment, with no writing or editing (measured in our deployments)
  • × 2Train twice as fast, autonomouslyMeasured in our deployments, at a tier-one automotive supplier
  • ÷ 5Trainers and mentors tied up5 times fewer, measured in our deployments

Automotive industry

A tier-one automotive supplier trains twice as fast

Autonomous operator training, guided in augmented reality on the real equipment.

Result: training speed doubled.

Deployment

8 trainers operational after one day

In our deployments, one day of training is enough: trainers create their first tutorial that same afternoon, then work on their own from the next day.

Result: 8 trainers operational at D+1.

They trust us

  • A tier-one automotive supplier
  • A food industry manufacturer
  • A manufacturer of measuring instruments

Frequently asked questions

Your questions.

Do our customers need to connect to anything?

No. The tutorial works at your customer's site without any connection: not to your servers, not to theirs, not to a cloud. No online account is needed.

Can a tutorial replace our instructions for use?

No, and that is not its role. The instructions meet the requirements of the Machinery Regulation; the tutorial extends them by showing the task on the machine. From 20 January 2027, Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 specifies the conditions under which the instructions may be supplied in digital form: an opportunity to rethink all your customer documentation.

Our customers are abroad. In which languages?

In each person’s language: translation and voice are produced by an artificial intelligence that runs on your computer, offline, and you review them in a few minutes before delivery. Tell us your customers’ languages: we will check with you which ones are available.

Who keeps control of the tutorials?

You do. Your procedures remain yours: SHIFT89 hosts none of them. You update them in a few minutes when the machine changes, and you decide what each customer receives.

Can we reduce our after-sales trips?

Often, yes. When a machine is causing trouble at a customer’s site, a tutorial created for that case, or a pair of glasses sent with its tutorials, may be enough to solve it without sending a technician.

Do our customers need to buy devices?

Yes: the operator follows the tutorial with augmented-reality glasses or a headset. We advise you and your customers on the device suited to their use and budget; several models on the market are compatible.

HoloLens 2 is no longer manufactured, and its security updates continue until December 2027 for connected devices. What happens to the investment?

At SHIFT89, we support HoloLens 2 until at least the end of 2030, so you can use your investment for longer. #AugmentedTraining needs no connection to work: your HoloLens 2 headsets can therefore be disconnected from Wi-Fi, for maximum security.

Your content does not depend on one device: several augmented-reality glasses and headsets are compatible. We advise you, completely independently, on the one that suits your working conditions and your budget.

All content created with #AugmentedTraining on HoloLens 2 can be reused, without being redone, on the new glasses and headsets we support.
