The challenge: interactive demo (2 min)

Your challenges

Don't miss out on AI and augmented reality. Without turning them into gadgets.

Innovating, showcasing your trades, standing out: AI and augmented reality have good reasons to tempt you. The risk is a purchase that impresses for a week, then sits in a cupboard. Our answer: a method that comes from our research work, and tutorials created by your own experts, in a few minutes, on your equipment. And AI, always offline, to scale up.

A technician, wearing augmented-reality glasses and gloves, removes the casing of a machine tool in a workshop.

The situation

The risk: a gadget that ends up in a cupboard.

Not missing out: it is the second reason our customers choose us, just after training young people. But the tool still has to be used.

Already in training programmes

In France: The reference framework of the MSPC vocational baccalaureate (bac pro) cites the “use of augmented reality for maintenance operations”1.

A defence priority

The “augmented human” is among the priority themes of the French Defence Innovation Agency2.

The gadget that impresses, then sits idle

A successful demo, then nothing: no content, no time to create any, a device that does not suit the workstation.

The wrong hardware

The latest fashionable headset is not necessarily the right one for your workshop; the cheapest is not always reliable.

What SHIFT89 changes

Innovation that is used every day, not just on demo day.

  • To learn, not to impress

A method that comes from our research work: the instruction appears where action is needed, so that everyone understands, remembers and masters the procedure.

  • Content straight away

Your own experts create the tutorials in a few minutes, on your equipment: the tool does not sit empty waiting for a contractor.

  • 100% offline

No network to open, no cloud: the tool works offline, and your know-how stays with you.

  • The right hardware

Neither the latest fashionable headset nor the cheap, unreliable one: we recommend the device suited to your constraints, your uses and your budget.

Our approach

First, understand how a hands-on skill is learnt. Only then, the tool.

Before designing our tool, we studied how people learn to do with their hands what they cannot yet do.

  1. A learning method from our research work

With research laboratories, we studied how people learn a task they don’t know how to do, in a constrained environment. The aim is not to make people act like robots: it is for everyone to understand, remember and own the skill. This method is validated by 5 industrial PhD theses.

  2. A creation method within every expert’s reach

The real challenge is creation: experts don’t have time, and not all of them are comfortable with digital tools. They create their own tutorials, very quickly, with the help of the built-in AI, and these tutorials apply the learning method without them needing to know it.

  3. The tool we wish we’d had

As former industry professionals, we know every second counts: the expert’s time must be kept as short as possible. We also know the value of trade or defence secrets: everything works offline, without compromise, artificial intelligence included, right down to translating a tutorial in a few seconds.

The result: tutorials created in a few minutes, that really make people learn.

The method and its evidenceOur approach

At your site

Useful innovation, at your site.

In industry

Showcasing your sites and trades, standing out with your customers, and above all training at the workstation: the device is used every day, not just during visits.

Industry

In the armed forces

The augmented human serving through-life support: a tool that works without a network, right beside the equipment.

Defence

In schools

A new teaching tool, complementing the teacher: students practise on their own in the technical training area.

Schools

Frequently asked questions

Your questions.

How do you stop the devices ending up in a cupboard?

By starting from a real use, at the workstation, and putting your experts in charge of creation: a tutorial is created in a few minutes, without a contractor. In our deployments, 8 trainers were operational after one day.

Do you need to buy the latest headset?

No. We recommend the device suited to your constraints, your uses and your budget, only from models proven in real conditions. Your content does not depend on any one device.

Isn't augmented reality just a fad?

It becomes one when the tool has neither content nor daily use. Our method comes from our research work, validated by 5 industrial PhD theses and published in international scientific conferences and an international scientific journal; our customers use it for training in industry, defence and schools.
