The challenge: interactive demo (2 min)

Land forces

The workshop manager is posted elsewhere. Their know-how stays on the vehicle.

Unit workshops, industrial support, schools: the experienced technician’s procedure is displayed on the real equipment, and both hands stay on the tool. Everything works without a network, in the workshop as on operations. No data passes to the software publisher.

A military mechanic, wearing augmented-reality glasses, works on the transmission of an armoured vehicle in the workshop.
  • 100% offlineIn the workshop as on operations: nothing to connect, nothing to open, artificial intelligence included.
  • No data held by the software publisherWe don’t know what our customers do, and we don’t need to know. Emmanuel Bricard, co-founder.
  • Hands-freeThe procedure is displayed on the vehicle, right where action is needed: both hands stay on the tool.

Your challenges

Vehicle fleets to refurbish, teams that rotate.

Rotating teams

Postings, rotations, departures: when the technician leaves, their know-how must not leave with them.

When teams rotate

Vehicle fleets to refurbish

Equipment worn by intensive use, a tight workload, know-how concentrated in a few experts.

Infrequent maintenance tasks

Some procedures come up only now and then: they are forgotten between one occasion and the next.

Far from any network

On operations, in a sensitive workshop: no network, or no question of opening one. No data must leave.

100% offline

What SHIFT89 changes

Every newcomer takes up the post without monopolising the workshop manager.

What the workshop manager, the technician and the newcomer experience.

  • Without any connection

Create, learn, translate: everything works without a network, artificial intelligence included. Your procedures stay on your equipment, under your sole control.

  • Hands-free

The procedure is displayed on the vehicle. No tablet resting on the armour, no phone to hold: both hands stay on the tool.

  • A few minutes

The workshop manager passes on a procedure in a few minutes, on the real equipment: one minute per instruction, with no writing, no editing, no contractor.

  • Verified learning

A quiz checks that the procedure is understood; you track who has learnt what, and where people get stuck.

Use cases

From unit-level maintenance to fleet refurbishment.

Unit workshop

Reception, diagnosis, inspection: the experienced technician’s procedure, available right beside the vehicle, at every support level.

Equipment regeneration

Procedures shared between workshops, in-house as well as with your industrial partners: know-how no longer depends on a single person.

Onboarding newcomers

The newcomer follows the procedure step by step, in augmented reality; the workshop manager remains available for everything else.

Rare intervention

Revise an infrequent intervention before you need it, on the real equipment.

Far from any connection

The procedure travels with the equipment: it is displayed on the vehicle, even where no network exists.

Schools and qualifications

The technical task rehearsed as often as needed, on the real equipment, during preparation.

The difference

What a tablet, a smartphone or an online platform impose on the workshop.

Every tool has its strengths. Here is what these approaches impose by nature, and what we do differently.

  • Other approachesA tablet resting on the armour means eyes leaving the vehicle. You read, turn around, look for where to act.
With SHIFT89The procedure is displayed on the vehicle, right where action is needed.Eyes on the task, both hands on the tool.
  • Other approachesFilming with a smartphone means one hand fewer for the task. And often a shoot, then editing.
With SHIFT89The experienced technician passes on the procedure while performing it, hands-free.One minute per instruction, no mandatory editing.
  • Other approachesAn online platform requires a network and an account with the software publisher. On operations there is no network; in the workshop, one would have to be opened.
With SHIFT89No connection, neither to create nor to learn.Your procedures stay on your equipment, under your sole control.

What we equip

Your language, your support.

Through-life support of land equipment, with tools right beside the vehicle.

Support levels
From first-level support to the specialist workshop, the procedure is displayed on the vehicle, even far from any connection.
Regeneration
Regenerate faster, even when teams rotate: know-how stays in the workshop.
Industrial support
The same task from one workshop to another, passed on using the real equipment, with no additional document.
Workload
Less expert time tied up for each newcomer: your experts stay on the scheduled workload.
Reception, diagnosis, inspection
Inspection points shown on the vehicle, where they matter, and checked with a quiz.
Specialist qualifications
The task rehearsed as often as needed before the test. The tutorial trains: it replaces neither the instructor nor the exam.

Our hardware advice

The hardware suited to your conditions of use, not the latest fashion.

Having worked in industry ourselves, we advise our customers as we would have done for ourselves: the device suited to your conditions of use, the length of your programs and your budget. Only operational solutions.

Isolated network

Devices that work without any connection, from first to last use.

Conditions of use

Workshop, deployment, wear with personal equipment: we advise you on the hardware suited to your environment. Some conditions (outdoors, cold, explosive atmospheres) require a case-by-case study.

Lifespan

Hardware chosen to last and to be supported; your content does not depend on a single device.

Turnkey: we configure each device and fit it with the necessary accessories, so that it works in your environment and with your constraints. What we prepare

Works on: Microsoft HoloLens 2, Arvicom CART-S, Samsung Galaxy XR, VITURE Luma Ultra XR, XREAL Aura and VIVE Eagle, and soon Arvicom CART-3D. Your content does not depend on a device.

Measured results

What our deployments have measured.

Figures measured during our deployments, a method validated by 5 industrial PhD theses and evaluated against Microsoft Dynamics 365 Guides.

  • 1 minTo create an instructionBy the expert, on the real equipment, with no writing or editing (measured in our deployments)
  • × 2Train twice as fast, autonomouslyMeasured in our deployments, at a tier-one automotive supplier
  • ÷ 5Trainers and mentors tied up5 times fewer, measured in our deployments

Industrial research

A boiler manufacturing plant: the method evaluated against Guides

Our method stems from work carried out with Institut Mines-Télécom in a boiler manufacturing plant. It was compared with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Guides.

Result: a study published at IEEE ISMAR 2022, the leading international conference on augmented reality.

Deployment

8 trainers operational after one day

In our deployments, one day of training is enough: trainers create their first tutorial that same afternoon, then work on their own from the next day.

Result: 8 trainers operational at D+1.

Funding and procurement

Simple purchasing.

An off-the-shelf solution, on quotation. It is up to the buyer to qualify their contract, according to the rules that apply to them.

Licences on quotation

One licence per device, glasses or headset, with volume discounts, and one licence for the PC application. Your choice: annual licences, multi-year licences or licences for the lifetime of the hardware. A quotation based on your project.

One day to get started

A one-hour scoping session by video call, one day on site with up to 8 of your experts, then standard project management. Additional support days when your project requires them.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions.

Does it work without any network, on operations?

Yes. No connection is required, whether to create, to learn or to track learners. The artificial intelligence (transcription, translation, voice) also runs on your computers, offline.

Our procedures are in the manufacturer’s official documentation. What is a tutorial for?

The official documentation remains the reference. The tutorial complements it: it shows the task on the vehicle, right where action is needed, and can be updated in a few minutes when the documentation changes.

It also makes training far more engaging and effective, particularly for younger generations. And it enables independent training, where there is no safety risk for learners.

Finally, it becomes your training standard: all learners are trained the same way, and this standard improves continuously, incorporating the best of your past, present and future trainers.

Glasses and headsets have cameras. What about protected areas?

Bringing a camera-equipped device into a protected area is subject to the approval of the site security officer: your rules apply. On our side, images stay on your equipment and none are sent to the software publisher. We do not know what our customers do with our solution, unless they tell us and share their content with us, on their own initiative.

HoloLens 2 is no longer manufactured, and its security updates continue until December 2027 for connected devices. What happens to the investment?

At SHIFT89, we support HoloLens 2 until at least the end of 2030, so you can use your investment for longer. #AugmentedTraining needs no connection to work: your HoloLens 2 headsets can therefore be disconnected from Wi-Fi, for maximum security.

Your content does not depend on a single device: several augmented-reality glasses and headsets are compatible. We advise you, completely independently, on the one that suits your operating conditions and your budget.

All content created with #AugmentedTraining on HoloLens 2 can be reused, without being redone, on the new glasses and headsets we support.

Doesn’t staff rotation cancel out the effort?

On the contrary: the tutorial stays in the workshop when the technician leaves. Their successor finds it on the same equipment, and can improve it in turn: your training standard keeps the best of everyone who has held the post.

Is the software accredited?

Accreditation is a decision by the authority that operates the system, for a given system: we do not claim it. Under a non-disclosure agreement, we provide the technical documentation useful for your process.

Your workshops’ know-how stays in your workshops.
