The challenge: interactive demo (2 min)

Plastics and composites

Know-how at risk? The expert’s technique stays on the press and the mould.

Injection presses, moulds, composite materials: your experts pass on their skills in a few minutes, directly on the machine; your new operators follow them in augmented reality, on their own. No network to open, no cloud: your workshop’s know-how stays with you.

A technician wearing augmented-reality glasses lays a ply of carbon fibre into a mould by hand.
  • 100% offlineNo network to open in the workshop: creating, learning and translating work offline.
  • No data held by the software publisherNothing is hosted by SHIFT89 and the software requires no online account.
  • Hands-freeThe instruction is displayed on the press or the mould: hands stay on the tool and on the part.

Your challenges

Unique know-how, an industry under strain.

Know-how at risk

Unique industrial know-how is now at risk.

Your experts are leaving

Recruiting remains difficult

Rubber, plastics: many recruitment plans remain difficult.

Accident rates above average

Workplace accidents more frequent than the average across sectors.

Errors and safety

Composites are growing

Composites are growing: expert manual techniques to pass on fast.

New materials

More and more recycled plastics: just as many new materials to master.

What SHIFT89 changes

The workshop’s know-how, followed independently by every new operator.

What the setter, the operator and the production manager experience.

  • 100% offline

Your settings and methods never leave the workshop: no cloud, no online account, nothing held by the software publisher.

    Learn more
  • Hands-free

Hands stay on the tool and the part, not on a tablet sitting in the middle of the resin.

  • A few minutes

One minute per instruction: your workshop’s know-how becomes a learning path your new operators follow on their own.

  • Verified learning

A quiz checks that the operator has understood; you know who has mastered which setting.

Use cases

From the press to the mould.

Setting the tools

The expert’s setting on the press, available to every shift.

First-level maintenance

The maintenance tasks entrusted to operators, shown on the machine.

Analyzing anomalies or drift

Acceptability zones and the defects to spot, shown on the part and checked by a quiz.

Gelcoating a mould

The composite technique learned on the real mould, guided step by step, with no tablet on the bench.

Preparing resin and reinforcements

The steps and points to watch recalled at the workstation, in the right order.

Medical plastics

Rigorous techniques learned before entering the cleanroom; using a device inside the cleanroom is assessed case by case.

The difference

What tablets, phones and online platforms impose in the workshop.

Every tool has its strengths. Here is what these approaches impose by nature, and what we do differently.

  • Other approachesA tablet on the bench means eyes leaving the part. You read, turn around, look for where to act.
With SHIFT89The instruction is displayed on the part, right where action is needed.Eyes on the task, both hands on the tool.
  • Other approachesFilming a setting on a phone means one hand fewer to do it.Then filming, editing, and a file to keep under control.
With SHIFT89The expert passes on the task while doing it, hands-free.One minute per instruction; nothing leaves the site.
  • Other approachesAn online platform keeps your settings on its servers.By nature: a connection, an account, data held by the software publisher.
With SHIFT89Your settings stay at your site.No network to open, no online account, nothing held by us.

What we equip

Your tasks, your vocabulary.

Injection press
Setting and maintenance shown on the press, for every shift.
Setting the tools
The experienced setter’s technique, done the same way by everyone.
First-level maintenance
Entrusted to operators, guided on the machine.
Acceptability zones
What is good and what is not, shown on the real part.
Gelcoating a mould
The composite technique passed on at the mould, step by step.
Preparing resin and reinforcements
The steps recalled at the workstation, in order.
Virgin polymers and recycled plastics
A new material, a setting to pass on: the tutorial can be adjusted in a few minutes.
Continuous improvement
When a method changes, everyone finds it up to date, on the machine.

Our hardware advice

The right hardware for your workshop, not the latest fashion.

As former industry professionals, we advise you as we would have advised ourselves: the device suited to your workshop, your protective equipment and your budget. Only solutions proven in real conditions.

With your protective equipment

Gloves, safety glasses, dust: we check with you, workstation by workstation, that the device can be worn with your protective equipment.

Cleanroom

For medical plastics, your cleanliness class sets the rules: we work with you to identify compatible devices, case by case.

Your budget

Just the hardware you need for your workstations and teams: neither the latest fad nor a cheaper but unreliable solution.

Turnkey: we configure each device and fit it with the necessary accessories, so that it works in your environment and with your constraints. What we prepare

Works on: Microsoft HoloLens 2, Arvicom CART-S, Samsung Galaxy XR, VITURE Luma Ultra XR, XREAL Aura and VIVE Eagle, and soon Arvicom CART-3D. Your content does not depend on a device.

Measured results

What our deployments have measured.

Figures measured during our deployments, a method validated by 5 industrial PhD theses and evaluated against Microsoft Dynamics 365 Guides in a study published at IEEE ISMAR 2022.

  • 1 minTo create an instructionBy the expert, on the real equipment, with no writing or editing (measured in our deployments)
  • × 2Train twice as fast, autonomouslyMeasured in our deployments, at a tier-one automotive supplier
  • ÷ 5Trainers and mentors tied up5 times fewer, measured in our deployments

Automotive industry

A tier-one automotive supplier trains twice as fast

Autonomous operator training, guided in augmented reality on the real equipment.

Result: training speed doubled.

Industrial research

A boiler manufacturing plant: the method evaluated against Guides

Our method stems from work carried out with Institut Mines-Télécom in a boiler manufacturing plant. It was compared with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Guides.

Result: a study published at IEEE ISMAR 2022, the leading international conference on augmented reality.

Funding and procurement

Simple purchasing.

An off-the-shelf solution, on quotation. It is up to the buyer to qualify their purchase, according to the rules that apply to them.

Licences on quotation

One licence per device, glasses or headset, with volume discounts, and one licence for the PC application. Your choice: annual licences, multi-year licences or licences for the lifetime of the hardware. A quotation based on your project.

One day to get started

A one-hour scoping session by video call, one day on site with up to 8 of your experts, then standard project management. Additional support days when your project requires them.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions.

Our settings are our know-how. What does SHIFT89 see?

Nothing. Everything runs offline, on your devices and workstations: SHIFT89 hosts none of your data and the software requires no online account. The artificial intelligence (transcription, translation, voice) also runs on your computer.

Our setters have no time. How long does it take?

One minute per instruction, a few minutes for a tutorial, on the real equipment, while doing the task. No writing, no filming, no mandatory editing, no contractor.

Our operators change often. Is it suitable?

That is precisely where the tool is most useful: the expert passes it on once, and every new operator follows the technique on the machine, at their own pace, without tying up a mentor for every arrival.

Can it be used in a cleanroom?

Your cleanliness class sets the rules: using a device there is assessed case by case. You can start before entering the cleanroom, on the real equipment or in a training room.

HoloLens 2 is no longer manufactured, and its security updates continue until December 2027 for connected devices. What happens to the investment?

At SHIFT89, we support HoloLens 2 until at least the end of 2030, so you can use your investment for longer. #AugmentedTraining needs no connection to work: your HoloLens 2 headsets can therefore be disconnected from Wi-Fi, for maximum security.

Your content does not depend on one device: several augmented-reality glasses and headsets are compatible. We advise you, completely independently, on the one that suits your working conditions and your budget.

All content created with #AugmentedTraining on HoloLens 2 can be reused, without being redone, on the new glasses and headsets we support.
