A tier-one automotive supplier trains twice as fast
Autonomous operator training, guided in augmented reality on the real equipment.
Result: training speed doubled.
Machine and equipment manufacturers
Commissioning, operation, maintenance: your technician passes on the procedure in a few minutes, hands-free, on the machine itself. At your customers’ sites, at home as abroad, each operator follows it in augmented reality, in their own language, with no online account and no connection to your servers or to theirs.

Your benefits
Deliver your machine with augmented-reality glasses: a guide to start-up, operation and even first-level maintenance. The first users you train, and everyone who follows them at your customer’s site, are autonomous: maximum satisfaction, and an argument your competitors do not have.
A machine is causing trouble at a customer’s site, far from you? Sending a specific tutorial, or a pair of glasses, may be enough to solve it: lower travel costs, and a machine that is back up and running sooner.
Your challenges
Your machines are often exported. Each country has its language, each customer its teams.
Maintenance and customer technical support engineers are hard to recruit.
Your customers find it hard to recruit too. Their new operators need to learn your machine fast.
Training the customer’s operator, handling after-sales calls, coming back for a rare intervention: so many trips for your best technicians.
Train your customersWhen your customer’s site is closed to suppliers, or simply has no network, an online service is useless.
100% offlineLittle time, and experts in high demand.
What SHIFT89 changes
What your technician, your customer service team and your customer’s operator experience.
The tutorial works at your customer’s site without any connection: not to your servers, not to theirs, not to a cloud. No online account to create, no network access to negotiate.
Learn moreYour technician creates while commissioning the machine; your customer’s operator follows the instruction on the machine, both hands on the equipment.
Learn moreOne minute per instruction: your commissioning, operating and maintenance procedures are created on the machine, with no technical writer, no filming, no contractor.
Learn moreEach instruction is translated and read aloud in the operator’s language by an artificial intelligence that runs on your computer, offline.
Learn moreMachinery Regulation
Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 on machinery becomes mandatory from 20 January 2027. It specifies the conditions under which the instructions for use may be supplied in digital form1.
An augmented-reality tutorial does not replace the instructions for use, and its compliance remains to be established under the Regulation. It extends them: it shows, on the machine, the task they describe.
Use cases
The commissioning steps placed on the machine: the customer moves forward alone, and your technician focuses on what really requires their presence.
Operating tasks guided on the machine, for every new user at your customer’s site, without waiting for your technician.
The customer’s operators, setters and maintenance teams: each one learns on their own machine, in their own language, at their own pace.
Routine maintenance tasks done by your customer’s team, guided on the machine: your technicians keep their time for what really needs it.
A specific tutorial, or a pair of glasses sent to the customer, may be enough to solve a problem: fewer trips, lower costs.
The same tutorial, in each country’s language: your know-how travels with the machine.
Assemblers, commissioning technicians: your newcomers learn on machines being assembled.
The “wow” effect: the machine and its know-how presented together, on the stand as in your workshop, without a network.
The difference
Every tool has its strengths. Here is what these approaches impose by nature, and what we do differently.
What we equip
The tutorial adds to your documentation: it shows the task; it replaces neither the instructions for use nor the risk assessment.
Our hardware advice
As former industry professionals, we advise you as we would have advised ourselves: the device suited to your constraints, your uses and your budget. Only operational solutions, proven in real conditions.
Workshop, protective equipment, environment: we help you recommend to your customers the device suited to their conditions. Outdoor work, cold and explosive atmospheres require a case-by-case assessment.
Your content does not depend on a device: each customer can choose the model that suits their use and budget.
Just the hardware you need for your workstations and teams: neither the latest fad nor a cheaper but unreliable solution.
Turnkey: we configure each device and fit it with the necessary accessories, so that it works in your environment and with your constraints. What we prepare
Works on: Microsoft HoloLens 2, Arvicom CART-S, Samsung Galaxy XR, VITURE Luma Ultra XR, XREAL Aura and VIVE Eagle, and soon Arvicom CART-3D. Your content does not depend on a device.
Measured results
Figures measured during our deployments, a method validated by 5 industrial PhD theses and evaluated against Microsoft Dynamics 365 Guides in a study published at IEEE ISMAR 2022.
Automotive industry
Autonomous operator training, guided in augmented reality on the real equipment.
Result: training speed doubled.
Deployment
In our deployments, one day of training is enough: trainers create their first tutorial that same afternoon, then work on their own from the next day.
Result: 8 trainers operational at D+1.
For confidentiality, we only name a customer with their written consent.
Funding and procurement
A model built with you, depending on whether you train your own teams, your customers, or both.
One licence per device, glasses or headset, for you as for your customers, and one licence for the PC application: annual, multi-year or for the lifetime of the hardware, as you choose. Prices on quotation.
A one-hour scoping session by video call, one day on site with up to 8 of your experts, then standard project management. Additional support days when your project requires them.
Frequently asked questions
No. The tutorial works at your customer's site without any connection: not to your servers, not to theirs, not to a cloud. No online account is needed.
No, and that is not its role. The instructions meet the requirements of the Machinery Regulation; the tutorial extends them by showing the task on the machine. From 20 January 2027, Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 specifies the conditions under which the instructions may be supplied in digital form: an opportunity to rethink all your customer documentation.
In each person’s language: translation and voice are produced by an artificial intelligence that runs on your computer, offline, and you review them in a few minutes before delivery. Tell us your customers’ languages: we will check with you which ones are available.
You do. Your procedures remain yours: SHIFT89 hosts none of them. You update them in a few minutes when the machine changes, and you decide what each customer receives.
Often, yes. When a machine is causing trouble at a customer’s site, a tutorial created for that case, or a pair of glasses sent with its tutorials, may be enough to solve it without sending a technician.
Yes: the operator follows the tutorial with augmented-reality glasses or a headset. We advise you and your customers on the device suited to their use and budget; several models on the market are compatible.
At SHIFT89, we support HoloLens 2 until at least the end of 2030, so you can use your investment for longer. #AugmentedTraining needs no connection to work: your HoloLens 2 headsets can therefore be disconnected from Wi-Fi, for maximum security.
Your content does not depend on one device: several augmented-reality glasses and headsets are compatible. We advise you, completely independently, on the one that suits your working conditions and your budget.
All content created with #AugmentedTraining on HoloLens 2 can be reused, without being redone, on the new glasses and headsets we support.
