The challenge: interactive demo (2 min)

Food industry

At every seasonal peak, everything starts again. Your best people’s know-how stays on the line.

Format changeover, cleaning, adjustment: your best line operator passes on their skill in a few minutes, at the machine. Seasonal workers, temporary staff and newcomers follow it in augmented reality, in their own language, with no phone or tablet in the production area. No cloud, no account, no network: your recipes and settings stay at your site.

An operator in hygiene clothing, wearing augmented-reality glasses, adjusts a part on a stainless-steel packaging line.
  • 100% offlineYour recipes, your settings and your know-how never leave the plant: nothing in the cloud, nothing held by us, artificial intelligence included.
  • Hands-free and cleanThe instruction is displayed on the machine; voice is enough to move forward. No shared screen to touch between two products.
  • A few minutesOne minute per instruction: your expert passes on the task during their format changeover, not in the evening behind a desk.

Your challenges

A line that keeps running, teams that keep changing.

The food industry hires a lot, and often for a single season. At every peak, everything starts again.

Seasonality

Among food industry workers, a large share of recruitment is seasonal: onboarding starts again at every peak.

High staff turnover

Difficult recruitment

Skilled food industry workers are hard to recruit, and maintenance technicians even more so.

The high-risk moments

A significant share of machine-related accidents happen during maintenance, cleaning and adjustment.

No phones in production

The BRCGS Food Safety standard requires control of portable items, phones and tablets, in open production areas1. Some sites ban them.

Recipes to protect

Your recipes, settings and processes are what set you apart: they have no business being on a software publisher’s servers.

Secrets to protect

Experts on the line

Your best line operator cannot keep up the pace and train every newcomer at the same time.

What SHIFT89 changes

Every seasonal worker guided on the line, without a mentor for each new arrival.

  • 100% offline

Use cases

What your teams learn on the line.

Format changeover

Your best line operator’s setting, available at every changeover and for every shift, even at night, even for someone who rarely does it.

Industrial cleaning

Dismantling, cleaning, reassembly: the moves of your most rigorous team, shown on the equipment, in the right order.

Lockout before intervening

Before an adjustment, cleaning or maintenance: making the machine safe in the right order, before touching it.

Take the challenge (2 min)

Maintenance and TPM

Routine maintenance tasks entrusted to line operators, shown on the machine by your maintenance technicians, to be reviewed before a rare intervention.

Hygiene and critical points

The key points of your HACCP plan shown where they matter, and a quiz to check they are understood.

Seasonal peak, new temporary worker

Every newcomer is guided step by step on the real line, in their own language, without tying up a mentor for each new arrival.

A fair comparison

What phones, tablets and the cloud impose on a line.

They are excellent tools. On a food production line, however, they impose a few constraints, by their very nature.

  • Other approachesFilming with a phone in the production area. One more portable item to control, and one hand fewer for the task.
With SHIFT89A dedicated device, provided by the site. The expert creates hands-free; the device never leaves the plant.
  • Other approachesA shared tablet beside the line.A screen touched with gloves on, between two products.
With SHIFT89Hands-free and clean. The instruction is displayed on the machine; voice is enough to move forward.
  • Other approachesAn online platform for your operating procedures.A connection, an account, your settings held by a software publisher.
With SHIFT89Your recipes and settings stay in the plant. No network to open, no data held by us.
  • Other approachesA training video, shot and then edited. To be redone whenever the line or the format changes.
With SHIFT89An instruction can be updated in a few minutes.By your expert, at the machine.

What we equip

Your line’s vocabulary.

The tutorial fits into your practices: it shows the task at the machine; it replaces neither your HACCP plan nor your reference procedures.

Format changeover and SMED
The expert’s setting available to every shift, to restart without trial and error.
OEE and minor stoppages
The right action at the right time, so as not to lose availability on a poorly mastered setting.
Cleaning in place (CIP)
The tasks surrounding your cleaning cycles, shown on the equipment, in the right order.
HACCP and critical control points (CCP)
Key points of attention shown where they matter, checked with a quiz.
Good hygiene practice guides and the hygiene package
Good practice shown at the workstation, not just filed away in a binder.
IFS Food and BRCGS Food Safety
Who has been trained in what: support for your audits. And a dedicated device, rather than a phone in production.
Lockout and lockout removal
Making the machine safe in the right order, before cleaning or adjustment.

Our hardware advice

The right hardware for your workshop, not the latest fashion.

As former industry professionals, we advise you as we would have advised ourselves: the device suited to your line, your hygiene rules and your budget. Only solutions proven in real conditions.

Hygiene and portable items

A dedicated device, provided by the site, that never leaves the plant: it fits into your portable items rules and your glass and brittle plastics register. Your quality department decides; we help it prepare its decision.

Temperature and areas

Ambient-temperature lines are the ideal setting. Cold and explosive atmospheres require a case-by-case study: we tell you beforehand, not afterwards.

Hairnet, gloves, PPE

The device has to be wearable with your clothing and protective equipment, on your line, not just in a demo room.

Budget and number of workstations

The right number of devices for your lines and teams, without oversizing: margins are tight, we know.

Turnkey: we configure each device and fit it with the necessary accessories, so that it works in your environment and with your constraints. What we prepare

Works on: Microsoft HoloLens 2, Arvicom CART-S, Samsung Galaxy XR, VITURE Luma Ultra XR, XREAL Aura and VIVE Eagle, and soon Arvicom CART-3D. Your content does not depend on a device.

Measured results

What our deployments have measured.

Figures measured during our deployments. Our method has been evaluated against Microsoft Dynamics 365 Guides.

  • × 2Train twice as fast, autonomouslyMeasured in our deployments, at a tier-one automotive supplier
  • ÷ 5Trainers and mentors tied up5 times fewer, measured in our deployments
  • 1 minTo create an instructionBy the expert, on the real equipment, with no writing or editing (measured in our deployments)

Industrial research

A boiler manufacturing plant: the method evaluated against Guides

Our method stems from work carried out with Institut Mines-Télécom in a boiler manufacturing plant. It was compared with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Guides.

Result: a study published at IEEE ISMAR 2022, the leading international conference on augmented reality.

Deployment

8 trainers operational after one day

In our deployments, one day of training is enough: trainers create their first tutorial that same afternoon, then work on their own from the next day.

Result: 8 trainers operational at D+1.

Funding and procurement

Simple purchasing.

An off-the-shelf solution, on quotation. It is up to the buyer to qualify their purchase, according to the rules that apply to them.

Licences on quotation

One licence per device, glasses or headset, with volume discounts, and one licence for the PC application. Your choice: annual licences, multi-year licences or licences for the lifetime of the hardware. A quotation based on your project.

One day to get started

A one-hour scoping session by video call, one day on site with up to 8 of your experts, then standard project management. Additional support days when your project requires them.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions.

Our recipes and settings are confidential. What does SHIFT89 see?

Nothing. Everything runs offline, on your devices and workstations: SHIFT89 hosts none of your data, and the software requires no online account.

One more device in the production area: what about our hygiene rules?

The device is dedicated, provided by the site and never leaves the plant: it fits into your portable items rules and your glass and brittle plastics register. The decision lies with your quality department; we help it prepare.

Can it be used in all our areas?

Ambient-temperature lines are the ideal setting. Cold and explosive atmospheres require a case-by-case study: before any project, we tell you what is possible at your workstations.

Our seasonal workers change every year and do not all speak the site’s language: what can we do?

Tutorials remain from one season to the next. Each instruction is translated and read aloud in each person’s language, by an AI that runs on your computer, offline.

Our line operators have no time to write. How long does it take?

They have nothing to write: one minute per instruction, a few minutes for a tutorial, during the format changeover or cleaning. No writing, no filming, no mandatory editing.

Does the tutorial replace our HACCP plan or our procedures?

No. Your HACCP plan and your procedures remain the reference. The tutorial shows the task at the machine, where it is done.
