The challenge: interactive demo (2 min)

Naval industry

The ship will not wait. Your experts’ skills are ready before it arrives.

Shipbuilding, through-life support, ship repair: your experts pass on their skills in a few minutes, directly on the equipment; your welders, pipefitters and mechanics learn them hands-free, in augmented reality, even where there is no network. No data held by the software publisher, no cloud.

A technician in a hard hat, wearing augmented-reality glasses, inspects a weld on a hull plate in a shipyard.
  • 100% offlineOn board, at the quayside, in the workshop: no connection, artificial intelligence included. Your technical data stays under your sole control.
  • Hands-free, on the real equipmentIn a confined space as in the workshop, the instruction is displayed on the equipment: both hands stay free for the task.
  • A few minutesOne minute per instruction: your experts pass on their skills during the intervention, with no writing or editing.

Your challenges

Full order books, ships to return quickly, hard-to-fill trades.

A large share of the activity is defence-related, and a great deal of recruitment lies ahead.

Very hard-to-fill trades

Welders, pipefitters, boilermakers and sheet-metal workers: trades where recruiting is very difficult.

Ship downtime

Customers want ships out of service for as short a time as possible: the procedure has to be ready before the ship arrives.

Training on site

It is difficult to find training programs to build up local capabilities.

Not enough trainers

A sector still prone to accidents

Ship repair and through-life support remain activities that are still too prone to accidents.

Defence and export control

Combined civil and defence activity, war materiel, dual-use goods: your technical data has no business being on a software publisher’s servers.

Secrets to protect

Competition for talent

The nuclear and aerospace industries are looking for the same profiles: the people you recruit have to become autonomous, fast.

What SHIFT89 changes

Train on site, before the ship arrives, without letting anything out.

  • 100% offline

On board, at the quayside, in the yard: no connection, no data held by the software publisher. Decisive when a large share of the activity is defence-related.

Use cases

From the shipbuilding yard to ship repair.

Through-life support and ship repair

The expert’s procedure ready before the ship arrives: the team reviews it, then applies it on board.

Shipboard equipment

At sea, there is no network: the procedure is already on board. The crew changes, the know-how stays.

Welding and boilermaking

Preparation, setting, application of the WPS, weld bead inspection: the skills of your best welders, passed on before and after the arc.

Pipefitters and mechanics

Assembly, inspection, return to service: each step shown on the equipment, to be reviewed before a rare task.

Before people leave

The know-how of your longest-serving staff, passed on in a few minutes on the equipment, for the teams who are arriving.

For navies

On board as at the quayside, training follows the crew and the equipment, with no network.

Navy

A fair comparison

What the cloud, tablets and visiting trainers impose.

They are useful solutions elsewhere. On board and in the yard, however, they impose a few constraints, by their very nature.

  • Other approachesAn online platform, on board? At sea, no network; at the quayside, sensitive data held by a software publisher.
With SHIFT89The procedure is already on board.Offline, no data held by us.
  • Other approachesA tablet in a confined space. One hand fewer, where you need both.
With SHIFT89Both hands free for the task. The instruction is displayed on the equipment.
  • Other approachesA trainer to bring to the yard.Local training that is hard to find, and lead times.
With SHIFT89Your expert passes it on on site.In a few minutes, on your equipment.

What we equip

Shipyard and shipboard vocabulary.

The tutorial supports the task: your technical documents, the classification society’s requirements and your operating procedures remain the reference.

Through-life support (MCO)
Through-life support equipped right next to the equipment, at the quayside as on board.
Ship repair and ship downtime
The procedure ready before the ship arrives, so there is no waiting for an expert.
Civil and defence activity and export control
No data held by the software publisher, no cloud: your technical data stays under your sole control.
Dry docks
During the docking, every technician follows the procedure on the real equipment.
Classification society and statutory certification
The tutorial does not replace your class requirements: it helps your teams apply them, in the right place.
WPS
Preparation, setting, weld bead inspection: applying the welding procedure specification, shown at the workstation.

Our hardware advice

The right hardware for your workshop, not the latest fashion.

As former industry professionals, we advise you as we would have advised ourselves: the device suited to your workshop, your protective equipment and your budget. Only solutions proven in real conditions.

On board and in confined spaces

A device that can be worn with your protective equipment, in spaces where room and sometimes light are short: we tell you beforehand what is possible. Outdoor work, on the quayside or on deck, requires a case-by-case study.

Heat and welding

The heat of machinery spaces and work under the arc require a case-by-case study: we focus on preparation, setting and inspection.

Defence and protected areas

The use of a device with cameras is a matter for your security officer. Everything runs offline: approval is easier to obtain, and we help you prepare it.

Your budget

Just the hardware you need, proven in real conditions: neither the latest fad nor a cheaper but unreliable solution.

Turnkey: we configure each device and fit it with the necessary accessories, so that it works in your environment and with your constraints. What we prepare

Works on: Microsoft HoloLens 2, Arvicom CART-S, Samsung Galaxy XR, VITURE Luma Ultra XR, XREAL Aura and VIVE Eagle, and soon Arvicom CART-3D. Your content does not depend on a device.

Funding and procurement

Simple purchasing.

An off-the-shelf solution, on quotation. It is up to the buyer to qualify their purchase, according to the rules that apply to them.

Licences on quotation

One licence per device, glasses or headset, with volume discounts, and one licence for the PC application. Your choice: annual licences, multi-year licences or licences for the lifetime of the hardware. A quotation based on your project.

One day to get started

A one-hour scoping session by video call, one day on site with up to 8 of your experts, then standard project management. Additional support days when your project requires them.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions.

Does it work on board, with no network?

Yes. No connection is required, whether to create, to learn or to track learners. The artificial intelligence also runs on your computers.

Our data is subject to defence or export control rules. What does SHIFT89 see?

Nothing. No data is sent to the software publisher and no online account is needed. Under a non-disclosure agreement, we provide the technical documentation your security teams need.

Can it be used for welding?

Work under the arc is done with the welding helmet down: no augmented-reality device at that moment. SHIFT89 is used before and after: preparation, setting, application of the WPS, weld bead inspection.

The ship is only here for a few days. How do we prepare?

The tutorial is prepared before it arrives, on identical equipment or during a previous docking; the team reviews it before intervening.

Glasses and headsets have cameras. What about protected areas?

Your rules apply, and only yours: the use of a device with cameras is a matter for your security officer. Images stay on your hardware; none is sent to the software publisher. We do not know what our customers do with our solution, unless they tell us and share their content with us, on their own initiative.

Our experts don’t have time. How long does it take?

One minute per instruction, a few minutes for a tutorial, during the intervention. No writing, no filming, no mandatory editing.

The next docking, with the skills of your best experts.

A 30-minute to 2-hour demo, on one of your pieces of equipment.
